Why HTM Exposure Matters More Than Ever

Across the healthcare system, one truth is becoming impossible to ignore:
We don’t have enough trained technical talent entering the Healthcare Technology Management industry. And the students who could thrive in HTM often never learn the career exists. That gap isn’t just a pipeline issue, it’s a patient-care issue, a workforce issue, and a future-of-healthcare issue.
That’s exactly why Elevate HTM exists.
This year, we stepped into classrooms, auditoriums, and community spaces across New Orleans and surrounding areas to introduce middle and high school students to the world of Healthcare Technology Management.
And what we saw was powerful:
Students leaned forward when they learned BMETs are the people who keep hospitals running.
They were shocked that a career with this much purpose doesn’t require traditional college debt.
They were drawn in by the hands-on nature of the work.
They asked bold questions about salary, growth, and impact.
Most importantly, they realized this industry isn’t hidden, they just hadn’t been shown the door yet.
HTM is one of the fastest-growing, highest-impact technical careers in healthcare, yet it remains under the radar. The mission of Elevate HTM is to change that, starting with awareness, exposure, and real access for young people who deserve a pathway into stable, meaningful work.
